A timeline provides us with a simple view of the timescale of key events relating to a particular perspective of history.

In this page we provide a local timeline that ties together church building dates and certain key local events in the historic village of South Brent that became Brent Knoll in the 19th C.  In many cases these dates are approximate

1100 – 1200    Building of the Norman church dedicated to St Michael

1300 – 1350    Rebuilding of the nave and chancel

1400 – 1450    Tower construction

1450 – 1500    Adding the north aisle and carved wooden ceiling

1460 – 1470    Carving of Fox and Goose benchends

1637   Pulpit installed

1645   Easter Rising in South Brent

1663   John Somerset Memorial created

1781    Symes Tomb - burial place of Edward Symes, local sugeon 

1850 – 1860   Rebuilding of chancel

1920  Erection of War Memorial in churchyard

1978   Death watch beetle attack on church roof

2009   South nave roof re-leaded
